I have to be honest with you — I've been thinking on this for days, trying to find the right words.
This Sunday, May 17, something is happening on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. that has never happened in the history of our nation — not since our very founding. Americans from all 50 states are gathering together in prayer and worship to rededicate our country to God ahead of America's 250th birthday. It's called Rededicate 250. One nation, coming before God in gratitude for 250 years of His faithfulness — and asking for His blessing, guidance, and grace for the next 250.
This is a moment we will tell our grandchildren about.
And our President has already set the tone for this holy weekend. He called for a National Shabbat — from sundown Friday, May 15 through sundown Saturday, May 16 — as an official time of gratitude, reflection, and faith. This is truly unprecedented. Wherever you stand politically, stop and reflect on this a moment. Our nation is being called to pause, to be grateful, and to acknowledge the God who has carried us.
So gather your people on Sunday — your kids, your parents, your grandchildren — and make this weekend one they will remember. Here are 6 simple but meaningful things you can do together:
1. Make sure your flag is flying.
2. Look up your state's motto together. So many of them reference God directly. Write it out in big letters, decorate it, hang it up. Pray together that your state will live up to the destiny expressed in its motto.
3. Watch part of the Rededicate 250 livestream from D.C. on Sunday. You don't have to watch all day — even 20 minutes of that gathering on the National Mall, with your children beside you, will plant something in their hearts.
4. Make these adorable Mini Phyllo Flag Tarts together — a festive, hands-on activity that even the littlest ones can help with.
5. Put together a Rededicate 250 Time Capsule to be sealed and opened in 50 years — in 2076, when America turns 300. You might include:
Seal it. Label it. Put it somewhere safe. This is the kind of thing that becomes a family heirloom.
6. At the end of the day on Sunday, gather your family around your flying flag. Hold hands. Put on the Star Spangled Banner. And pray — simply, out loud, together — that God would guide our country for the next 250 years. Let your children hear your voice asking God to bless this nation. They will never forget it.
Mama, you have more power to shape the next generation's faith and love of country than any event on the National Mall ever could. What you do in your home this weekend matters eternally.
Don't miss this moment.
Blessings, Brenna
